Directions to West Pennine Sailboard Club, Watergrove Reservoir, Wardle, Rochdale

From 15th August, A664 Albert Royds Street bridge will be closed for 11 weeks. During that time, if you are coming from the M62 you have 2 options:

Leave M62 at Rochdale J20 (roundabouts at steps 4 & 6 of the directions are now actually traffic lights) and come past Rochdale town centre. Click for directions.

Leave M62 at Milnrow J21 and go near to Hollingworth Lake.Click for directions.

How to get in

Click on the keys for a map showing the normal route to the Club.

This link to googlemaps will also give you directions. Between steps (5) and (10) of those just go straight on to the traffic lights at the Range superstore at Kingsway/Albert Royds Street and ingore the unnecessary turns in between.

Or simply follow the directions below - you decide.

(An alternative is to leave M62 at J20 and go past Rochdale town centre, but let's not complicate things)

Directions to Watergrove Reservoir

The reservoir is situated above the village of Wardle near Rochdale, Lancashire about 6 miles from Junction 21 of the M62.

If you are using sat nav the postcode of the Post Office in Wardle Village on the approach to the reservoir is OL12 9NT.

OS grid reference for the Club is SD 912182.

Leave M62 at J21 and follow signs for A640 (Elizabethan Way) for Milnrow. Coming from the direction of Manchester, you will go straight on through 2 roundabouts and then left at the 3rd roundabout at the bottom of the hill. You are now on Elizabethan Way.

Go straight on for about 1 mile, passing the Wishing Well pub. You'll go through one set of traffic lights, then after another 0.5 miles go over a canal and then come to a 2nd set of lights with Range superstore on the left. Turn right at these lights.

You are now on Albert Royds Street. It's a wide road. Carry on for 1 mile, over the river and to a roundabout. Turn right onto the A58 Halifax Road.

After 1/2 mile there is a mini-roundabout. Turn left here between the two pubs, The Bulls Head and the Spring Mill Tavern.

Continue up the hill (Wardle Road) and take the left at the mini roundabout opposite the newsagent (this is Ramsden Road).

Follow Ramsden Road through Wardle village. The road changes to a cobbled surface as you go up the hill. Follow it until you reach the Public carpark under the reservoir wall.

The entrance gate is in the far right of the carpark.

You will need to bring your own drinking water and contact us for the code to the combination lock - see Contact Us.
