Welcome to West Pennine Sailboard Club
Last Updated on Sunday, 24 July 2011 16:33 Written by Admin
Welcome to West Pennine Sailboard Club, possibly the best windsurfing club in the North of England. Located in the Pennines above Rochdale, we offer clean wind, cleaner water and a great clubhouse with hot showers. Annual membership is great value with opportunities for board storage and we offer day sailing for casual members. So if you are learning, still trying to crack that carve gybe or need somewhere to practice your flakas, get in touch and come for a sail.

Gate Code - can visitors phone or text us for the TEMPORARY code. Members - please do not give out the ANNUAL gate code to anyone.
The reservoir was definitely full on 21st January!

January - 5 sailors took to the water on Thursday 12th and in a good wind too. Shame for the rest of us 9 to 5ers! The prospects for sailing any time soon don't look good at the moment .... but we'll keep watching the forecasts!
21st Dec - it says a lot about the healthy state of the club that there were 9 members on the water on the shortest day of the year (or some may argue that's 22nd Dec, but whatever) and a week day at that. It helped that it was 10C, but the 3" of snow that fell at the weekend had only melted the day before this sailing - the water was all the fresher for that snowmelt! There's some mild and windy weather to come over the festive period, so if family gatherings get to you .... this could be your perfect antidote!
3rd Dec - Max temperature of 7 or 8C, but still 9 hardy sailors were on the water early in the afternoon. Not easy conditions either - Westerly Force 4/5 with periods up to Force 6. Fine with a smallish sail, but a bit of a handful for some using 6.5 or 7.0m!
November - there was sailing on at least 2 weekends and 10 or more sailors out.

See more photos from 13th November 2011.
DVD - Andy Pepper has spent a while editing footage filmed by Mike Stemmer back in August. This will prove useful to those featured and good entertainment for everyone else. A couple of discs are available to borrow and return a.s.a.p. - they are on the top of the noticeboard.

Coming Up ....
Last Updated on Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:26 Written by Admin
2012 Events - we've already made quite a bit of headway in drafting our programme for 2012/13! It all kicks off with the Annual General Meeting on Sunday 4th March. From May onwards there'll be the usual mix of charity event, demo days, T15 and NWWA racing, some camping, barbecues and socials and we'll chuck in a video session and some other stuff. Take a look at the programme from the Main Menu. And, as always, let us know if you have any ideas you'd like us to follow up - click This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Hollingworth Lake are looking for instructors for various activities - see Recruitment Day
RYA & Project Windsurf - RYA would like you to take part in their survey, whether you are a member or not. WPSC is affiliated to the RYA, so there are benefits to them knowing what you do/don't want from the RYA. The survey takes about 15 minutes and you could win an i-pad - click here. Project Windsurf is a website launched by RYA late in 2011 to put windsurfers in touch with others who sail all around the country. Many windsurfers, especially those living on the coast, are nomadic and may not belong to a club - they just go where the wind is. The Project Windsurf website allows clubs and regular windsurfers to set up a 'group' and then each member can add comments and photos and get involved in discussions. Groups appear higher up the home page according to level of use. It's early days, but take a look at our club here, join it and feel free to add stuff.
Board storage - we've got planning permission to provide extra kit storage space to meet the demand from members and hope to sort this out before April 2012.
Pot-holes - we need up to an hour of your time to do some repairs on your next visit - yes, you .... please!
Webcam - don't forget to have a look at our webcam when you're planning your next visit. The new leisure battery is running the webcam much of the time when the generator isn't running, though it does need taking home for a long charge periodically.
Lost Property - the collection of wetsuits, buoyancy aids, boots etc left in the changing rooms has now shrunk a little and we've disposed of some! There are still some items though, so please collect what's yours and maybe do an extra check round on each visit before you leave. See list
