Welcome to West Pennine Sailboard Club, possibly the best windsurfing club in the North of England. Located in the Pennines above Rochdale, we offer clean wind, cleaner water and a great clubhouse with hot showers. Annual membership is great value with opportunities for board storage and we offer day sailing for casual members. So if you are learning, still trying to crack that carve gybe or need somewhere to practice your flakas, get in touch and come for a sail.

Sunday 13th May - started with sails of about 7.5m, then 6.5m and by mid afternoon the right size had dropped to about 5.5m as the South Westerly picked up to F5/6. About 20 of us took advantage, plus a further 6 that ventured to Fleetwood and reported similar wind strength there, but flatter water in the lee of the mussel beds at low tide. Meanwhile, up in the hills, the air at least felt warmer than of late!

Speed Ladder - fastest speed belongs to a 20 year old F2 Sputnik .... and Andy Pepper! For latest recorded speeds see here.
Windsurfing 4 Cancer Research, 7th May - about 30 people turned out to raise money, or just to sail and to try out demo kit from Robin Hood. Midday was marked with a Master Blaster race across and back from a 'Le Mans style' start. Read more and see some photos - click.

Water supply - we can't drink water straight from taps in the clubhouse yet, but we'll let you know when the new treatment plant is working.

Annual Gate Code - will change at the end of Sunday 27th May. If you are a fully paid up member but don't think you've received the new code please contact our Membership Secretary, Andy This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Proposal to replace windsurfing with kitesurfing, starting with the 2016 Olympics - seems to miss the point that windsurfing is (still) a popular sport. It's also very much an over-reaction - there's surely room for both sports. It could even undermine the funding for T15 youth windsurfing. To read more and show our support for windsurfing by signing a petition click here.
Next event is Jubilee weekend early June - see our 2012 Events page here.
RYA Project Windsurf - take a look at this website launched by RYA if you sail in other parts of the country. Our club is shown here . Join it and feel free to add stuff, or look at other places.
Board storage - we plan to get on with providing extra kit storage space in June, to meet the demand from members. We just need to wait until we hear if our grant application has been successsful.
Webcam - The router is being checked - we think that may be the reason for the webcam's failure in recent months, though it is difficult to keep it running without a mains supply too. Also see the link in our Main Menu.
