Winds at Watergrove

The reservoir is in the foothills of the South Pennines at about 230 metres above sea level. The clubhouse faces southwards, looking across the sailing area towards the wall of the reservoir dam which makes up the longest side and runs roughly east to west.

The prevailing wind is south-westerly coming diagonally down the lake. There are very few trees to disturb the windflow although different wind directions produce their own 'dead-spots' due to the shape of the hills. The lake is sailable with winds from any direction though south-south-easterlies that blow straight into the dam do create a strange windshadow close to the wall.
