The water is clean and deep. There are no other lake users apart from a few anglers on day permits on the banks. The only power-boat allowed on the reservoir is WPSC's own safety-boat. The launching area in front of the clubhouse is shallow and although it is muddy in places, sailors can walk into the water along the old cobbled road that went down the valley before it was flooded.

Like all inland lake water it is cold - but at least it doesn't taste too bad and you won't see unpleasant things floating in it! There are no obstructions in the water now and the one submerged 'island' is clearly marked. The only things on the surface are WPSC racing buoys, a few terns and other windsurfers (the terns always get out of the way, the windsurfers sometimes do...).

In 1996 Watergrove reservoir was run down to a muddy trickle in the drought that affected just about all inland sailing venues. Since then the lake has been full and we understand that the level will be kept high by North West Water to maintain the integrity of the dam wall.
